According to a new rumor around the PlayStation, the popular PlayStation series is “dead”. Over the years – between PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 and now PS5 – PlayStation has amassed an IP war chest. Much of this IP has been dormant for many years while another large part of it has been put on ice recently as PlayStation focused on creating a new IP during the PS4 and PS5 generation. One example of the latter is kill zone, which debuted in 2004 via PS2. Between the minor and major releases, the series has seen six different releases, however, there have been none of them since 2013, and if a new rumor is to be believed, that won’t change, at least not at any point in this generation.
On Twitter, the leaker Sorry about the leaks It doesn’t say much, but in a larger report about the future of Guerrilla Games – the developer behind the series – the leaker claims it is “dead”. If this sounds familiar, it’s because there’s been some grumbling about this in the past, which isn’t too surprising, considering that Guerrilla Games have moved on to horizonAnd, given the latest game in the series, not only did it not set the world on fire commercially, it only got a score of 73 on Metacritic, which is low by PlayStation’s first-party standards.
The series of first-person shooter games began in 2004 and has spread to PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4.
